Local politics
What has Mayor Jonathan LaBonte done during the past two years that you agree with? What has he done that you disagree with?
Had that shot of Jagermeister and stayed standing… and then he had the second. Seriously, he continues to move Auburn forward in recreational investment and transportation infrastructure. I do not agree with joint services discussion.
What has the city council done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?
They have basically kept the city going without fanfare. But I disagree with letting inflated school budgets move forward without being fiscally accountable — which is what the duty of council is.
What has the city manager and the city staff done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?
They also continue moving the city forward with the mayors vision. I do not agree with keeping $15 million in the fund balance
What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?
I have not agreed with anything they have done and have disagreed on anything financial or budget oriented.
What is your solution for Auburn’s high school?
A tiered approach: One building at a time until the whole high school is replaced. Each unit would be about $15 million and would be more attainable than trying for $60 million. This changes if the state funds the project. I would try to keep any bonding below $20 million
Any last words?
I recognize that education is a fundamental building block to city growth. That, however, does not supply a blank check to spend freely and without direction and limited accountability. We need to maintain responsible cost of living increases knowing that these come on the backs of taxpayers and taxpayers need to see results for their investment.
