1940 – 2013

TOGUS — Stephen J. Kaluzynski, 72, a resident of Route 202 in North Monmouth, died Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Togus VA Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Lewiston, the son of Frank and Nellie Dec Kaluzynski. Stephen attended schools in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 23, 1976, in Winthrop, he married Maria Sidor of Germany; Maria passed away in 2010.

Stephen was a mill worker, having worked at Globe Albany in North Monmouth and Carlton Woolen in Winthrop for many years. He enjoyed playing chess and belonged to the chess club that met at the Barnes and Noble book store every Tuesday. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with his three beagles; he loved all animals and really liked feeding and watching them. He also enjoyed fishing and going to the ocean. Stephen had a big heart when it came to animals.

He is survived by his sister, Jenny Wayne of Connecticut; a nephew, Frank Kaluzynski of North Monmouth; a sister-in-law, Susan Kaluzynski of North Monmouth; a good friend, Anna Spiak of North Monmouth; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Maria; his brother, Ray; and his brother-in-law.
