STRONG — The Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a septic system installers workshop, to be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 at the Foster Memorial Building portion of the Strong Town Office. Glenn Angell, state site evaluator, and David Rocque, state soil scientist, are the presenters.
Angell and Rocque will be taking a different approach as they talk about erosion control practices that need to be used during installation or expansion of a septic system. There will be a segment on septic system failures, with statistics provided for the various disposal field devices. Causes for failures and how to avoid them will be discussed, as well as issues that hold up a project.
Several other areas of interest such as the interchangeability of disposal field devices, installer liability, the importance of swing ties and correct elevations, backfill material, stone cleanliness, fill extensions, 24” retaining walls, fill extension slope and length, installing systems in or through wetlands and in the shoreland zone will also be discussed.
There will be plenty of time for everyone’s questions to be answered. Lunch and refreshments included.
Preregistration with payment is required. Cost is $65 through Nov. 27 and $80 from Nov. 29 to Dec. 9. Send or drop checks off to the FCSWCD, 107 Park St., Farmington. For more information, call 778-4279.
