POLAND — Selectmen on Wednesday announced they hired Bradley A. Plante as the new town manager.

Selectman Janice Kimball said Plante won’t begin his duties until April 1 because he is contractually obligated to give his employer a month’s notice.

Plante is town manager in Hampstead, Md., but is no stranger to Maine.

He served as town manager in Harrison from May 2008 through September 2010, before taking the Maryland job.

Prior to serving in Harrison, he was town administrator in Rockland, Mass., for nearly six years.

Kimball, making the announcement for the board as its vice chairman, said Plante was on the Board of Selectmen in North Attleborough, Mass., for six years before taking the helm in Rockland.

Plante holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of the State of New York and a master’s degree in public administration from Alabama’s Jacksonville State University.

“The Board of Selectmen looks forward to welcoming Brad to the town of Poland,” Kimball said. “With Brad’s leadership and experience, we are excited about working together for the citizens of Poland.”
