RUMFORD — The silver anniversary edition of the Mountain Valley High School yearbook was dedicated to social studies teacher Dan Hodge in a unique ceremony.
Most years, the yearbook staff plans a school-wide assembly with “the big reveal” of to whom the yearbook is dedicated. With the auditorium off limits, the students faced a challenge. Instead they held an anniversary party in Hodge’s room.
Hodge’s first clue that he was singled out for the honor came during morning announcements.
Junior Caleb Gauvin, a member of the yearbook staff, said over the intercom, “Twenty-five years ago, the first senior class of Mountain Valley High School was feeling mixed emotions toward graduation.”
Then senior Katie Puiia said, “For three years they were pintos and panthers, now they were graduating as falcons!”
Gauvin continued, “Today we would like to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mountain Valley High School in rooms 101 and 103.”
Puiia said, “Please stop by for cake, games, yearbooks and a slide show.”
Then the combined voices announced the big reveal. “At this time, please rise and join us in the hallways to congratulate the former Mexico pinto, Mr. Dan Hodge, as the 2014 Yearbook recognized teacher!”
Students lined the halls as Hodge, in a crown and cape, paraded through, escorted by the yearbook staff. The halls were filled with applause and laughter.
MVHS yearbooks are on sale for $57 at the school.
