TURNER – Stan and Marilyn Rice of Turner recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The surprise party took place at the family’s Bear Pond cottage on July 30.

There were 60 guests in attendance, coming from as far away as Minnesota, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Virginia. Original wedding attendants present were Harold Smith, best man, Gail Groomes, flower girl, David Rich, ring bearer, and David Foss, usher.

Mr. Rice and the former Marilyn Foss were married on Sept. 3, 1955, at the Church of the Nazarene in Livermore Falls.

Mrs. Rice lived on High Street and graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1953 and Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., in 1969. She taught in the public schools of Rockland, Mass. She is also involved in the monthly classmates luncheon, better known as “The Andies 53 Club,” which consists of classmates who graduated together from Livermore Falls High School in 1953.

Mr. Rice was a resident of Dorchester, Mass. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he attended Eastern Nazarene College and graduated in 1960. He taught math in Norwell, Plymouth and Brockton, Mass.

After retirement the couple came back to Maine to be near the people and places they enjoy most. They have four children, who hosted the party, and 10 grandchildren.
