LEWISTON — The City of Lewiston has received the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments’ Transportation Achievement Award for its Riverside Greenway Project.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted last October and, since then, the area has been regularly used by walkers and bicyclists alike.
The AVCOG award recognizes transportation systems that promote safety, efficiency and inter-modalism.
The Greenway is 6,600 feet along the Androscoggin River which is part of a 4.78-mile linear pathway for bicycling and walking, and connects civic, employment, retail, service and cultural destinations in downtown Lewiston and the northern portion of Main Street.
The trail route is a combination of off-road pathways and on-street bikeways marked by signage and/or striping.
