Chisolm Early Learning Center

RUMFORD — The Chisolm Early Learning Center will hold an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at 126 York St.

The open house will offer information about the center’s programs for prenatal to 5-year-old children and describe the benefits to early education.

Tours of of the facility and refreshments will be available.

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the historical society building.

Election of officers will be held. Members are asked to bring in any artifacts that have been collected during the winter.

Whitman Library to discuss invasive forest pests

BRYANT POND — The speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, will be Jean Federico of the Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District.

She will present information about invasive forest pests, such as the emerald ash borer, Asian longhorn beetle and hemlock wooley adelgid. Education about these invasives and early detection are the key to effective control and eradication.

The program is open to the public at no charge, and light refreshments will be served.

Wilkins Community House hosting final pot luck

WATERFORD —The Wilkins Community House will host its last Community Pot Luck Supper of the season at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

Hosts for this month are Sara Stockwell, Martha Eaton, and Antoinette Tarbell. Participants must bring a dish to share and may bring a friend. Rolls and a beverage will be provided.

The community house is located on Plummer Hill in Waterford Flat next to the church.

Storytellers to share in Farmington

FARMINGTON — The monthly meeting of the WOODS (Western Order of Dedicated Storytellers) Storytelling Guild will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Farmington Public Library on Academy Street.

All who are interested in storytelling are welcome. Telling a story is optional.

Paris Cape Historical Society to meet

PARIS — The first meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society for 2015 will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the University of Maine complex at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

Lisa Cooper and Percy Turner extended an invitation to the society for a tour of the building, which was once the exhibition hall.

Following a brief business meeting, a short history of the Oxford County Fair will be presented, using some of the well-framed photos of past fairs that are on display.

The public is welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Babysitter training set for May 30

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Community Center will hold Babysitter’s Training Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the community center.

The course will be led by Allison Ross, an EMT for United Ambulance. It is geared toward 11- to 14-year-olds, teaching information on leadership, basic care, safety and first aid, including infant and child CPR.

The fee for this class is $35, which covers the cost of the book, CD and other information that participants will be able to take home with them for reference. Attendees will receive a certificate at the end of the course.

Class size is limited to 14 candidates, and registration must be made by Friday, May 22.
