FARMINGTON – “Rustic realism” would probably be the best words to describe Irene Duplissis’ style of transparent watercolor. Most of her subjects are beautiful characteristics of the New England states, both past and present.

She is Heirlooms of Tomorrow’s “Artist of the Month” for February.

A professional artist for many years, Duplissis’ interest in art began when she was 9 and attending private elementary school in the Lewiston-Auburn area under the tutelage of French nuns.

She has exhibited extensively, and her work can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the United States and abroad. She is currently devoting most of her time to teaching art in the local area and conducting workshops.

An open house will be held today at Heirlooms of Tomorrow, at routes 2 and 4, across from Franklin Memorial Hospital. It will be from 4 to 7 p.m. and continues from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. Duplissis will be on hand to greet the public and explain her work and techniques. Her exhibit will continue through the month of February.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
