ARUNDEL (AP) — The owners of Kate’s Homemade Butter have been awarded $1 million in a lawsuit they filed against a company they accused of installing faulty roof panels at the butter maker’s new manufacturing facility.

Dan and Karen Patry, Kate’s owners, say the panels installed by Branch River Plastics at the Arundel plant weren’t compliant with building codes and were defectively manufactured. The Patrys said if left unaddressed the panels would have endangered workers.

A lawyer for the Patrys told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1IdB7Z8 ) the $1 million covers roof replacement costs and his clients are satisfied with the verdict.

Smithfield, Rhode Island-based Branch River Plastics did not return a call from the newspaper.

Kate’s, founded in Old Orchard Beach in 1981, makes 1 million pounds of butter per year.
