LISBON FALLS — Festival organizers for the 33rd Annual Moxie Festival are reporting a successful weekend.

“We’ve received great feedback from visitors and residents alike. It’s really amazing how a small band of volunteers put together a wonderful festival year after year,” said Tracey Steuber, Lisbon’s economic development director and Moxie festival coordinator.

Steuber also credited the more than 25 local businesses who sponsored this year’s festival.

“We couldn’t have done it without the local businesses that provide financial support for the festival. Their generosity is where it all begins for us,” she said.

The festival had events for everyone, including Friday night’s “Block Party,” the fireworks display and the Lisbon Historical Society’s open house at the town’s one-room schoolhouse museum.

Crowds gathered early Saturday, July 11, for the 20th Running of the Moxie 5k with runners coming from all over New England to compete. 1984 Olympic gold medal marathon runner Joan Samuelson won the female 50 to 59 age group in 19:27. As the 5k wrapped up, more crowds surged the parade route.

Musical performances, cheering demonstrations, a recipe contest and the infamous Moxie Chugging Challenge took place a few blocks from the downtown area in the afternoon. Beau Bradstreet of Bridgewater won the chugging challenge for the fifth consecutive year.

The Fourth Moxie Car Show broke attendance records with over 230 entries, held Sunday, July 12. Approximately 75 people attended a new event, Family Fun Day at Beaver park, which included a geocaching scavenger hunt by L.L. Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools and a primal fitness demonstration and workouts from Wolfpack Fitness in Auburn.

The festival has also announced the winners of the Moxie Parade. The results are as follows:

Best Overall: Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union.

Most Moxie Commercial: Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union.

Most Moxie Non-Commercial: Maine Masonic Youth.

Most Appealing: St. Matthews Episcopal Church.

Most Creative: Lisbon Falls Baptist Church.

Festival organizers are already planning the 2016 Moxie Festival, scheduled for July 8-10, 2016.
