AUBURN — A dark blue Chevy Cavalier smashed into Goldworks on Center Street on Saturday night leaving a gaping hole in the building.
The store was closed at the time.
Shop owner Tom Cunliffe said witnesses reported two people running off into the woods just after the 8 p.m. crash at 33 Center St., abandoning the car.
He didn’t believe anything was taken from the store.
The sedan had extensive front-end damage with broken glass everywhere.
“We’re very grateful it happened before Lowe’s closed,” Cunliffe said as he and three others held up plywood to temporarily cover the hole.
He estimated the damage at several thousand dollars but said he’d still be able to open Monday morning.
