HALLOWELL — The Harlow Gallery, in partnership with The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine, is accepting submissions for its “Equal Protection of the Laws: America’s Fourteenth Amendment” exhibit.

The exhibit will run at the Michael Klahr Center at the University of Maine at Augusta from Sept. 22 through Dec. 16.

The goal is to create an exhibit by Maine-based artists that contemplates the importance of the 14th Amendment, the most litigated and referenced of all amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Themes can relate to any or all areas of American society covered by the amendment, including: due process, liberty, gender and sexuality, race, legal protections, equality in the workplace, housing, education, law enforcement, rights of the incarcerated, tolerance, and local, state and federal representation.

Email submissions will be reviewed by a curatorial committee comprised of staff members from the Harlow Gallery, the Human Rights Center, and the Maine Arts Commission.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 1. There is no submission fee.
