LEWISTON — The Western Maine Labor Council will host a Workers Memorial Day Dinner on Sunday, May 1, at The Dolard and Priscilla Gendron Franco Center.

Social hour begins at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is at 5:15 p.m., followed by speakers.

The event is to remember and honor 14 Mainers who died while on the job in 2015, as well as to re-commit to improving workplace safety so every worker comes home at the end of the day.

Members of the council will honor three leaders at this year’s event. The Worker Solidarity Award will be presented to Emery Deabay of Bucksport; The Frances Perkins Award will be presented to state Rep. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston; and The Bruce Roy Solidarity Award will be presented to Keaten of China.

Rabbi Sruli Dresdner of Temple Shalom will give the invocation. Emily Cain, 2nd Congressional District candidate, will speak. Sue Mack will perform the bagpipes. The flags will be presented by the Lewiston Honor Guard, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 785 of the Lewiston Fire Department.

The names of the fallen workers will be read in honor and memory.

The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the door, but RSVP is recommended by calling 207-783-3890.
