National Day of Prayer in Norway

NORWAY — The Norway Church of the Nazarene will hold its National Day of Prayer observance for the Oxford Hills area at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at 10 Grove St.

Pastors from many churches and other community leaders will lead in prayer. There will be special music provided by the music department of Oxford Hills Christian Academy. Community members are invited to attend and join.

The National Day of Prayer is always the first Thursday in May. This is the 65th annual National Day of Prayer. President Harry Truman signed it into law after Congress overwhelmingly passed legislation designating the day each year.

National Day of Prayer in Auburn

AUBURN — The East Auburn Baptist church will participate in the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5.

The church will be open for prayer and prayer walks from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be a live stream of the day from Washington, D.C., from 9 a.m. to noon, along with a rebroadcast from noon to 3 p.m.

Carrol Conley, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, will speak from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Worship will be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Cousineau.

Corporate prayer will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

RUMFORD — The Daughters of Isabella will be selling carnations for the Right to Life at the Holy Savior Church after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 7, and after the 9:30 a.m Mass on Sunday, May 8.

Community Mexican supper in Sumner

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will host a community Mexican supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at 50 Main St., Route 219.

The menu will include enchiladas, Spanish rice, salads, cornbread, dessert, coffee and punch.There will be a raffle of baked goods and household items.

Proceeds will benefit the outreach mission of the church. Donations will be accepted for the meal.
