TURNER — School Administrative District 52 was recently recognized as first runner-up in the Comprehensive Project category in the New England Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers competition on May 4 in Waltham, Mass. It earned the award for completing its energy savings performance contract.
The district is using performance contracting to make upgrades and improvements to lighting, building insulation, boilers, cooling systems and ventilation.
Performance contracting is an agreement between the district and an energy services company where the company identifies, designs and installs energy-related improvements. The equipment is installed over time and the company guarantees its performance.
State law requires school district committees responsible for securing this funding to interview at least three companies that propose contracts, should it receive them. SAD 52 received two and voted to contract with Siemens AG.
