PARIS (AP) – Madonna drew massive applause from a sold-out crowd at Paris’ Bercy stadium when she dedicated a cover version of John Lennon’s peace ode “Imagine” to the Russian hostage crisis.

Addressing the audience midway through her Sunday-night show, Madonna spoke briefly about the hostage-taking at a school in the southern city of Beslan that left at least 330 dead.

Officials have blamed the deadly attack on Chechens and other Islamic militants.

As video images of war and children were broadcast behind her on giant screens, the 46-year-old pop diva urged fans to think about what happened in Russia and about Lennon’s lyrics.

Baker giving ‘Everything’

Anita Baker is back in the limelight with a sultry new collection of songs and a second bite of the apple.

The Grammy Award winning singer, whose hits include “Sweet Love” and “Giving You the Best That I Got,” has a new single, “You’re My Everything,” that is already a hit on urban adult contemporary stations.

“I’m tired, but in a good way,” Baker, who wrote or co-wrote nine of the album’s 10 tracks, told The Boston Sunday Globe. “The attention the song has received has shocked me. It’s like I’m dreaming right now.”

Her new album is in stores this week.

In the mid-1990s, Baker stopped making music when her parents fell ill, she had her first son and she felt she wasn’t spending enough time with her husband.

“Living life is about wearing all our hats – the mommy hat, the daughter hat, the wife hat, the career woman hat,” she said.

‘Bridget’ clothes on block

Movie star Renee Zellweger is auctioning off the “fat clothes” she wore after her infamous weight gain for her role in the “Bridget Jones’ Diary” sequel, imdb.com reports.

The blonde beauty grew from a size six to a size 14 to play dumpy Bridget in new movie “The Edge Of Reason,” and now she has shed the weight, none of her clothes fit her, so she’s selling garments – from designer dresses to tailor-made jeans – online and intends to distribute the proceeds to children’s charities.
