LEWISTON – The Central Maine Medical Center Chest Pain Center has been granted advanced accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

The facility has earned Accredited with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions) status because it offers coronary angioplasty. PCI is among the most advanced treatments available to open blocked arteries in the heart, thereby preventing or treating a heart attack.

CMMC’s Chest Pain Center is the first and only accredited heart attack center in Maine, according to Susan Horton, executive director of the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute.

The Society of Chest Pain Centers accreditation process reviews the total cardiac care capabilities of the hospitals it evaluates.
