HI SUN SPOTS: To Donna from Sept. 24, please check out mainemineralclub.org. Anyone with interest in rocks, minerals, fossils in any form, should know about MMGS. Come visit, drop in on a meeting (always potluck) and consider joining with a personal or family membership. There are lots of experts in every imaginable field and lots of us just-plain-folks, too. We have a youth program, field trips all summer and guest presentations the rest of the year. Meetings are in Portland at Payson Smith Hall, USM. Good luck with your find! — Mark Libbey, no town.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve lost my list, would you again publish the list of craftsmen (or women) who sharpen knives as well as those who sharpen scissors? — No name, no town.

ANSWER: Wicked Sharp offers knife sharpening services for all of the southern Maine area. You can call them at (207) 210-2559. Not only do they accept knives at their home in South Portland, but they travel to farmer’s markets in southern, central and midcoast Maine, doing on-the-spot sharpening for people who bring them their knives. A listing of their farmers market schedule can be found by visiting their calendar page on their website. They also have a local agent location at 4 Season Farm Market at 9 Third St. in Auburn. If you drop off your items before Wednesday, then they will be sharpened and ready for pick-up on Thursday.

Mathieu Saw & Tool, Inc. of 7 Enterprise St., Lewiston, also offers kitchen knife sharpening as part of their precision saw and tool grinding operation. You can call them at (207) 783-9087.
