WILTON – The following sessions will be offered in August at the Wilton CareerCenter, 865 U.S. Route2E. These workshops are free to the public.
• An employment and training orientation is held every Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. It is an explanation of training programs and career exploration. The program also provides a brief introduction to the Wilton CareerCenter services.
• A CareerCenter and job search orientation is held every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon. It explores what services and resources the Wilton CareerCenter has to offer for those newly unemployed or looking for a new career.
• Creating a college portfolio will be offered Aug. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. This workshop will outline the process and help attendees create this important document.
• O*Net ability profiler will be held Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is a career exploration tool that helps clients determine career paths. Results may be used to identify a person’s professional strengths for which more training/education would be beneficial, and to identify occupations that fit a person’s strengths.
• Preparing your resume for online applications will be offered Aug. 11 and 25, both from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Intended to help people format their resume so it can be attached to an online application. Attendees should bring their work and educational history.
• MEOC 101 – essentials of college planning will be offered Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This workshop offers instructions on filling out financial aid forms to assist people in getting the maximum amount in grants or loans. Must pre-register for this session by calling 1-800-281-3703.
• CareerCenter youth orientation will be held Aug. 14 and 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. This is intended for youths between 16 and 21 looking for a job. It provides guidance on which careers might fit a young person best, and will introduce attendees to services at the CareerCenter.
• Resume writing will be held Aug. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. This workshop will explore the basics of résumés and applications so that attendees can learn what can make a résumé or application stand out. Those attending should bring their work and educational history.
