DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where can I send or bring Christmas card tops locally for recycling? I have 4 years worth and I was going to mail them to St. Jude’s but the postage was going to cost too much. Hopefully someone locally can use them. Thank you. — Lee, Lewiston.

ANSWER: There are many ways to recycle greeting cards. Here are some suggestions from MetroCreative:

Turn this year’s cards into next year’s gift tags; transform a greeting card into a mini puzzle for a youngster; glue silly characters from Christmas cards onto a sheet of magnet then use these magnets for decorations; frame favorite cards so their messages can endure year after year; use greeting cards to make wine charms for holiday entertaining; use cutouts of cards to improve the appearance of plain gift wrap or bags; insert cut rounds of greeting cards into the inside of can lids to create crafty ornaments; make a paper Christmas tree from cutouts on greeting cards; encourage kids to make a photo collage from the cards they like.

If any organization can use Lee’s cards, please contact Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if Sun Journal does a paper route? I’m 13 and I am trying to make money to get a new saxophone and am willing to deliver newspapers. Thank you. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: Sun Journal carriers are independent contractors, much like running your own small business, requiring you to deliver community news to hundreds of people seven days a week. Unfortunately, to become a carrier you must be at least 18 years old.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Every year around this time a local organization, Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, has a fundraiser. Do you have any information about when and where it will be this year? — Skylaa, no town.

ANSWER: Tommy’s Feral Feline Purrrfect Christmas Bake Sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17 and 18, and will be held under a tent in front of Chapter 11, 707 Main St., Lewiston.

Sun Spots received this information from Norm Blais about this upcoming event:

Does Christmastime inspire you to bake? Do you love to bake and want to help save kitty lives? Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends is looking for bakers and baked goods for our “Purrrfect Christmas Bake Sale.” Join us and help make this Christmas bake sale a memorable one for Tommy’s colony kitties. Your baked goods, bottles, and donations will go a long way to help us continue to save the lives of the forgotten colonies of feral felines and the ones crossing our path needing help daily. For the past 38 years we have been on a mission to save forgotten lives and with your help and support we can continue this important mission. With the recent tragedies that our cat colonies faced we are in need of funds more than ever to help rebuild and prepare our kitties for what will be a harsh winter. Thank you so much for your generosity.

Donations are always appreciated and can be sent to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236 or via paypal at tommysferalfelinefriends.com/donate. For more information, please contact Norm Blais at normblais39@yahoo.com.
