LEWISTON – Jim Amaral, the founder, baker and president of Borealis Breads, will share the story of his company and offer insights into social responsibility as a winning business strategy in a breakfast presentation to be held in Lewiston on Dec. 9.
The presentation will be at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston as an Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce breakfast and is also part of a series of fall breakfast programs hosted by Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility. The breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m.
Amaral started his company in June 1993 with one employee. He has since grown his business to include 52 employees, three bakeries and 250 wholesale accounts in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Amaral contributes to a sustainable economy through partnerships with Maine farmers and by connecting customers to the source of their food and the issues that threaten it. He has assisted with the development of Aurora Mills in Houlton, a company processing Maine-grown organic grains. In addition he is about to launch another value-added food company by year’s end.
As a past board president of MEBSR, Amaral will offer an overview of the work the group is doing in the state. Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility is a statewide membership organization that serves as catalyst for creating a sustainable economy through the integration of environmental, community and workplace excellence with profitable business practices. MEBSR’s nearly 400 members include locally owned small businesses along with a number of Maine’s largest companies.
People may register for this event by calling the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce at 783-2249. Admission to the monthly Chamber breakfast is $13 for members and $16 for non-members.
