NAPLES – Dave McGowan and Cindy (Towne) Jones-McGowan announced the opening of their new business, Doug’s Bar and Grill.
It is located behind Tommy’s Variety, which the couple also own, on the corner of routes 302 and 11 in Naples.
The business is named after Doug Baker, a close friend of the couple’s and of building owner Tommy LaPierre. Baker was a pool-playing fixture at the bar for years under its former names. Baker died on Memorial Day 2002.
Given permission by Baker’s son, the couple chose to honor his memory by naming the renovated bar for Baker and using a drawing of his likeness for a logo. Marty Poulin recreated Baker’s likeness.
The McGowan’s have been making extensive renovations to the building. The interior of the building maintains the old barn boards and beams. The step-down dance floor and stage area has been replaced, as well as the decorative brass accents. Doug’s Bar and Grill is scheduled to be open for business smoke-free on Dec. 4 after the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.
The public is invited for refreshments and tours of the renovated business directly after the ceremony. Entertainment will be provided by Pete Finckle.
