The Poland Spring house opened its doors for the 42nd season, June 1st, officially, altho as a matter of fact several old guests were favored with a pre-opening welcome the night before. Everything had its usual spick and span look so long associated with Poland Spring, and long since accepted as a standard for the resort world. This means a world of work and incidentally some strenuous hustling to be in shape at least a day in advance. There are 4,000 acres to this estate.

The Auburn City Council on Monday authorized City Manager Steve Lewis to draft an ordinance that would create a commission whose charge would be to examine the future of the parking lot at Great Falls plaza. The action came as the result of the first of a series of reports from the Auburn Parking Committee appointed to evaluate the current parking supply and demand in the Auburn Central Business District and to assess future needs resulting from anticipated development activities in the area. The committee has been meeting for more than a year, and Chairman Bruce Nadeau presented an overview of their findings to the council March 8. Nadeau said Monday it was “premature” to decide on the exact method of funding the proposed improvements to the lot, which is about 20 years old and will soon be in need of major repair if steps are not taken now to maintain the existing surface.
