AUGUSTA – The House rejected a proposal Friday to allow a casino in Oxford County. The action was taken with no discussion and passed by unanimous vote.

The bill will next go before the Senate. It will be dead for the session if the Senate rejects it, too.

Rep. John Patrick, D-Rumford, submitted the proposal by request of a constituent, Seth Carey of Rumford. The bill would have allowed a casino in Western Maine, with 40 percent of its revenue earmarked for Maine agencies.

The Legislature’s Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee, which Patrick chairs, revamped the bill, but still a majority of the committee suggested it ought not pass.
