FARMINGTON – A 16-year-old boy was stabbed three times Tuesday afternoon on Broadway.

He suffered three superficial wounds – to the leg, to the chest and to the shoulder – when he was attacked in the alley between TD Banknorth and Mainestone Jewelry, police officer Bridgette Gilbert said.

The boy was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar ambulance and later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for observation, she said.

Police have a suspect but no arrest has been made. The victim did not know who stabbed him. The attacker’s face was covered with a ski-mask-style winter hat, but the victim possibly recognized the attacker’s voice, Gilbert said.

After being stabbed, the victim walked up Broadway crossing the street and entering Pine Tree Cellular to seek help. Police are unsure why he went to the store.

The victim walked in and asked to use a phone to dial 911, said Josh Bickerman, an employee at Pine Tree. The incident did not happen at the store but police arrived there shortly after receiving the 2:10 p.m. call, he said.

Officer Dave Rackliffe, his dog Odin, other Farmington police officers and deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call and searched the area.

The dog led police to an alley behind the stores on Broadway, Gilbert said.

The investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to call police at 778-6311.
