FARMINGTON – A judge set bail Friday at $250 cash each for two people accused of possessing heroin in New Sharon.

Police said they stopped a vehicle on Cape Cod Hill Road on Thursday night and discovered three bags of heroin, three oxycodone pills and a plastic bag of marijuana.

Maine State Police charged Shaun A. Le, 27, of Readfield with two counts of unlawful possession of heroin and oxycodone; Jennifer K. D’Alessandro, 24, of Augusta with one count of unlawful possession of heroin, according to complaints filed with the Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.

Le and D’Alessandro appeared Friday before Judge Valerie Stanfill in 12th District Court in Farmington. She set bail at $250 each with the conditions of no possession or use of illegal drugs and subject to search upon reasonable suspicion.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said prior to court proceedings that Le’s vehicle was stopped because the vehicle registration sticker for the month was not on the front license plate as required, and police got a tip to be watching for the vehicle. Robinson said the stickers need to be placed on both license plates of a vehicle in Maine.

Trooper Mathew Casavant walked his drug-detecting police dog, Kaiser, around the vehicle and the dog indicated the presence of drugs, the affidavit states.

“I spoke with (D’Alessandro) and she admitted to having marijuana concealed in her underwear,” Casavant wrote in the affidavit. “When (D’Alessandro) removed the baggie of marijuana I observed a small baggie of chunky material that appeared to be heroin. D’Alessandro said the operator of the vehicle Shaun Le told her to stick the drugs in her panties.”

A further search of the vehicle revealed two more baggies of heroin, one on the floorboard and another in a Reese’s Pieces box, the affidavit states.

Three OxyContin pills, 30 milligrams each, were located in Le’s pants pocket, the affidavit states.

A search of D’Alessandro’s Augusta apartment uncovered more drugs. Four grams of heroin were seized, including the 3 grams confiscated during the search of the couple and the vehicle, Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

“Drug agents say the heroin was going to be distributed in Franklin County,” McCausland said.

The couple are being held at Franklin County jail in Farmington.
