JAY – Selectmen will hold a public hearing on sewer rates Tuesday before making a decision on charges, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.

“We don’t know what they’re thinking so we’re going to see what selectmen want to do,” Marden said.

The rate is $210 per unit now, with the rest of the Sewer Department budget covered by property taxes.

Selectmen have been exploring other methods to calculate sewer rates but had not made any final decisions as of January.

There will also be discussion at the 6:30 p.m. meeting at the Jay-Niles Memorial Library on requests for a flashing light at the intersection of routes 4 and 17 in North Jay.

Some residents voiced concern over the intersection and believe a flashing light would make it safer, Marden said.

The request has been discussed with Gene Uhuad of Maine Department of Transportation and he submitted it for review since the roads are state highways.
