LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will hold a public hearing Monday on a community enterprise grant application they intend to file to help businesses improve their building facades.

The application is for the maximum of $150,000 allowed under the grant program, Town Manager Martin Puckett said.

No local tax dollars would be used for the grant, he said.

The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the town office.

Businesses would be able to apply for up to $25,000 and would need to match the amount dollar for dollar, he said. If someone applied for $25,000, the business would need to put up $25,000 of its own money.

The grant could be used for windows, doors, brickwork, awnings and other faade improvements, Puckett said.

“The grant cannot be used on the interior,” he said.

Partners involved in the project are the Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce, Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group and Greater Franklin Development Corp.

Any work to be done would need to go out to a competitive bid process, Puckett said.

The grant is meant to augment efforts to revitalize the town’s business community.

There are eligibility requirements to be met, including having no liens on property and no bankruptcy, he added.

If a building is on a historical registry, then a review of the property would need to be done to make sure it meets historical guidelines.

About a dozen business representatives have shown interest in the grant, Puckett said.

Anyone interested should contact him as soon as possible. The grant application is due Feb. 15, he said.

It is a competitive grant process with only $750,000 available, and there are many municipalities in the state that could compete for that money, he said.

On another matter, Puckett said the budget workshop scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed until the selectmen’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the town office.

A representative of Maine Resource Recovery Association will attend to discuss single-stream recycling, Puckett said. That means people could put all of their recyclables in one container to be picked up by the association.
