RUMFORD — The Oxford County Medical Reserve Corps will have a program for those who would like to learn how they can help in a public health emergency. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Rumford Municipal Auditorium.

From 6 to 7 p.m., David Saphier, PA-C, LHO, will discuss the role that the local health officer has and how volunteers can help. Training on mass vaccination clinics will follow.

The Oxford County Medical Reserve Corps is a group of community volunteers who train to assist health care systems when they become overwhelmed. They help with mass vaccination clinics, alternate medical care sites and special needs populations during major emergencies.

The team needs volunteers in all areas including clerical, medical, mental health and support functions. No clinical training is required, but persons with prior training are encouraged to participate. Teams are being developed throughout Oxford County and help is needed to assure that family, friends and neighbors have the care that they need in times of community crisis.

Visit OxfordCountyMRC.org or call 357-3468 for more information on the program.
