LEWISTON – Lucien Joseph Guay, 80, of Old Farm Road, died Jan. 18, at 6:05 a.m. surrounded by his children and grandchildren in prayer at his bedside.

Although he resigned his whole life to God’s will, his humble request made to his family, a week prior to his death was that they pray that he may obtain the grace of final perseverance to God’s holy will.

He was born in St. Magloire, Canada, on Sept. 19, 1925, the son of Henri and Emma (Fournier) Guay. He was a faithful and devoted husband to his wife Juliette for 55 years. He honored his duty as a father to his children not only in his teachings but in his examples. His greatest gift to them was his lifelong example of living the eight beatitudes as preached by Our Lord.

He was a rosary maker for over 30 years and enjoyed reading.

He hand sewed moccasins for local companies until he bought his farmhouse. He then raised chickens for Hillcrest Co.

He will be remembered by many people to whom he counseled and prayed for.

He was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul where he was blessed with a very devoted pastor and friend the Rev. Robert Lariviere who visited him and administered the sacraments before, during and after his illness. He was also blessed by the presence of a dear friend, the Rev. John Fongemie who visited him several times during his illness.

He is survived by his four sons, Robert, Donald, and Gerard, all of Connecticut and Henry, of Warren; six daughters, Joanne Poulin, Jacqueline Guay, Therese Guay and Katherine Hooks, all of Lewiston, Pauline Cavallari, of Connecticut and Madeleine Casey, of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Juliette; his parents; his eight brothers and sisters; and his great-granddaughter, Shadae Foster.
