PORTLAND — A Lewiston man was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison Friday for his role in a 2014 home invasion in Minot.
Victor Lara Jr., 33, was sentenced to 184 months behind bars and five years of supervised release. He was convicted of interstate robbery conspiracy and using a firearm during a violent crime.
Lara was convicted following a jury trial Sept. 12, 2016.
On Aug. 2, 2014, three men told police they were at a home at 340 Garfield Road when three armed and masked men broke in, assaulted and robbed them.
Lara was later arrested, along with two other suspects. According to court documents, Lara was armed with a crowbar when he burst into the home in search of money and drugs. Investigators said Lara repeatedly beat the victims with the crowbar while urging his co-conspirators to shoot them.
The victims suffered minor injuries.
The investigation was conducted by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
