LEWISTON — Whether the church is still relevant in today’s world will be discussed at Lifetree Cafe at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at 1919 Lisbon Road.
The program — titled “Is Church Obsolete: Has God Left the Building?”— explores emerging trends showing the church is quickly losing membership and eroding in influence.
“The fastest growing religious group is the group of people who don’t associate with any specific religious tradition,” says Lifetree representative, Craig Cable. “We’ll consider what might be behind that trend — and whether the trend represents a problem or an opportunity.”
During the program, Lifetree Cafe participants will have the opportunity to discuss their views of what’s fueling the decline in church attendance around the country.
Admission to the 60-minute event is free.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
