SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Harold J. Soukup, 79, died peacefully March 27, at his home, after a long illness.
Born in Southwest Harbor, June 21, 1924, the son of William T. and Elizabeth Stanley Soukup, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 69 of Southwest Harbor. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He worked for the Astor Estate for many years and also fished for lobster for 29 years. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Vera Gillie; two sons, William Soukup and wife, Shirley and Harold “Jay” Soukup, all of Southwest Harbor; three daughters, Shirley Deans and husband, Lewis of Orland, Janice Cote and husband, Daniel of Lewiston and Wilma Waterman and husband, Michael of Trenton; a brother, Robert Soukup and wife, Yvette of Cape Cod, Mass.; a sister, Lurline Tuttle of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
