STRONG – Madelene I. Toothaker, 78, of Strong, died Friday, March 5, at her home in Strong following a long illness.
She was born April 22, 1925, in Farmington, daughter of Edgar and Vivian (Hood) Tuttle. She was educated in the schools of Strong, graduating with the class of 1943.
She married Erwin Toothaker, June 22, 1952 in Belfast. From 1952 to 1964 she and her husband owned and operated Mid Town Variety Store and Bakery in Strong. She was employed in local mills in Strong and later worked for G.H. Bass retiring in 1988. Then worked as a Dietary Aid at Sandy River Nursing Home until 2000 and then later worked at CAT Lumber. She was a member of Strong Fireman’s Auxiliary. She attended Strong United Methodist Church in Strong. She enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, crocheting and decorating cakes.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Jean and her husband Sidney Strom of Norway and Sharron Boyd of Strong; a son, Ephraim and wife Joan Toothaker of Strong; grandchildren, Debbie Chandler of Strong, Craig Chandler of West Hartford, Conn., Edward Boyd and his wife Carolyn of Industry, Daniel Boyd and his wife Michelle of Strong, Daren Toothaker of Limerick; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Leigha and Sean Boyd; special pen pal Leona Hermens of Wellington, New Zealand and care giver Mary Pinkham.
She was predeceased by her son Robert and son-in-law Basil Boyd.
