It is discouraging to see that 14 Western Maine Community Action staff received conditional layoff notices recently.

After a long career, I worked temporarily at the Wilton CareerCenter following my own layoff and saw first-hand how hard those fine folks work to assist people in difficult positions find training, employment or re-employment. They are unfailingly positive and patient. They provide invaluable resources to people who are often frustrated and discouraged and who don’t know where to turn when they come to a CareerCenter.

It is difficult to understand why Gov. Paul LePage would turn down federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funding, funding that is required to keep Western Maine Community Action in business and provide much-needed services to Maine people.
