LOUDON, N.H. – Not one to be easily written off in any race, Eddie MacDonald knows how to fight back.

The veteran driver from Rowley, Mass., completed a clean sweep of both NASCAR Camping World East Series races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, winning Saturday’s Heluva Good Fall 125.

MacDonald pitted under caution for right-side tires on lap 92, charged back to take the lead from Steve Park with one lap remaining and hung on for top honors.

“I was excited when we won our first race here, but this one means just as much,” MacDonald said. “Any time you win at this place, it’s special for the whole team, the owner and everybody involved. This was quite a Saturday morning for us.”

MacDonald’s crew chief is Rollie Lachance of New Gloucester.

The race was part of a rare NASCAR tripleheader in preparation for today’s Sprint Cup race. The Camping World East race was postponed Friday by rain.

Two-time series champion Brad Leighton appeared well on the way to earning his ninth victory at NHMS before running out of gas at lap 120. Leighton, of Center Harbor, N.H., started sixth on the 38-car grid and took the lead from MacDonald on lap 77.

After the event’s sixth and final caution, it came down to Leighton and Park in a seven-lap shootout. Park thought he had it in the bag when Leighton’s car slowed coming off turn 1, but MacDonald was ready for a late charge.

Park settled for second while series point leader Matt Kobyluck finished third.

Kobyluck has just two races remaining to lock up his first Camping World Series title.

Matt Hirschman drove the Gillette-Evernham Dodge from 17th to fourth at the finish, while Austin Dillon completed the top five. Dillon is the grandson of NASCAR car owner Richard Childress and is having a strong season in NASCAR’s eastern regional tour.

New Hampshire native Joey Polewarczyk had a strong run in his first race on the Magic Mile, placing sixth. Polewarczyk, 19, finished third this summer in the TD Banknorth 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.
