NEW ORLEANS, La. – Bates College senior Noah Gauthier and assistant track and field coach Joe Woodhead received regional honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday, taking home New England Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year honors, respectively.
Gauthier wins the New England Men’s Field Athlete award for the second consecutive year, while Woodhead is Bates’ longtime throws mentor for both the men’s and women’s track and field teams.
Spaudling earns All-America honors
OSHKOSH, Wis. – University of Southern Maine junior James Spaulding of the men’s outdoor track and field team became the third athlete in the history of the program to earn All-America honors Friday after the Lewiston High graduate finished eighth in the decathalon at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Spaudling finished with 6,264 points.
Also, Bates sophomore Rich McNiel finished fifth in the men’s hammer throw, while Noah Gauthier placed 14th.
