BALTIMORE – Laura Harper scored twice as the University of Maine blanked Maryland-Baltimore County, 3-0, in America East women’s soccer action Sunday.
The 13th win of the season for Maine ties the school record for wins. Maine also won 13 games in 2003 and 2004.
The Black Bears (13-3-1) also clinched the third seed in the America East tournament. Kim Stephenson tallied the other goal for Maine, while goalie Jasmine Phillips made for saves.
St. Joseph’s 3, Wheelock 0
STANDISH – Heather Stanger picked up a hat trick to lead St. Joseph’s to a 3-0 win over Wheelock.
St. Joe’s (9-6) outshot Wheelock (6-10), 20-1. Megan Willeee had an assist on Stanger’s third goal.
Men’s soccer
St. Joseph’s 3, Newbury 1
STANDISH -Kevin Melega scored all three goals to send St. Joseph’s to a 3-1 win over Newbury in men’s soccer action.
Cory Smith made three saves for the Monks (9-8). Brian Picano turned aside four shots and John Mawson scored the only goal for Newbury (5-10-1).
Maine Maritime 1, Lesley University 0
CASTINE – Ben Tourangeau scored the only goal of the game just before halftime to lift Maine Maritime Academy to its first win of the season, 1-0.
Luke McPartlin made four stops in net for MMA (1-12-4).
Bowdoin 1, Babson 1
BABSON PARK, MA. – Anthony Regis answered a Babson goal with one of his and Bowdoin settled for a 1-1 tie with Babson.
Kevin Owens furnished Babson (9-5-3) with its only goal. Nathan Lovitz made four saves for Bowdoin (10-2-1).
Field hockey
UMF 6, Becker 0
FARMINGTON – Six different players scored as the University of Maine at Farmington clinched the North Atlantic Conference’s top seed with a 6-0 win over Becker in field hockey action.
Elyse Cole and Amanda Pullen put the Beavers in front with first-half goals, then Erika Lucas, Samantha Kenison, Taryn Trefethen and Brooke Plaisted added markers of their own in the second half. Andrea Tyler had a pair of assists for UMF (12-2).
Maine 2, UMBC 0
ORONO – Rebecca Giroux kicked away three shots to collect her third shutout of the season and the University of Maine blanked Maryland-Baltimore County, 2-0. Kim MacDonald and Gina Legge scored the goals for Maine (7-9).
St. Joseph’s 3, Anna Maria 2
STANDISH – Julia Ostrowski scored two goals and St. Joseph’s was able to hold off Anna Maria, 3-2.
Kelly Emerson added a goal and Gina Giaetani, Darcey Ward and Jessica Barker had assists for the Monks (6-8).
Anna Maria (3-13) got goals from Jodie Dube and Nicole Eldridge late in the second half, but Karrie Sirois, who kicked away four shots in goal, helped the Monks preserve the win.
