BANGOR – Junior quarterback Dave Chase threw for three touchdowns and passed for 123 yards to lead Husson to a 46-13 rout over Becker College in football action Saturday.

Jason Jack of South Paris had two short runs for scores, while Colby Horne caught three passes for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior Brian Biggers contributed to the Eagles’ (4-3) efforts with a 45-yard punt return.

Castleton 2, UMF 1

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton State defeated the University of Maine at Farmington, 2-1, in the NAC women’s soccer championship Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first 32 minutes. Olivia Irons converted a penalty kick at the 32:43 mark, but the Beavers were unable to score the equalizer over the final 58 minutes of play.

Jodie Welch, Molly Hagstrom and Amanda Byrn were named to the All-Tournament team for the University of Maine at Farmington.

Boston 2, Maine 1

BOSTON, Mass. – Susan Marschall scored in double-overtime to lift Boston University to a 2-1 win over the University of Maine in the America East women’s soccer title game Saturday afternoon.

Marschall took a corner kick from teammate Meghann Cook and sent it past America East goalkeeper of the year Jasmine Phillips to give the Terriers the victory.

Heather Hathorn scored an unassisted goal at 79:04 to knot the game at 1-1 for the Black Bears. For Hathorn, it was her school-record 35th career goal.

Bates 1, Bowdoin 0

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Junior Kim Alexander scored her conference-leading 12th goal of the season with 45 seconds left in the first overtime to give Bates College a dramatic 1-0 victory over Bowdoin College in the NESCAC women’s soccer tournament semifinals Saturday afternoon.

Bates junior Jessie Gargiulo set up Alexander at the top of the Bowdoin box, where she slotted the ball past the Polar Bears’ (10-5-1) keeper Anna Shapell into the net at the far post.

The Bobcats (12-3-1) will host Tufts, which defeated Colby 2-1 in the other semifinal, for the conference championship Sunday at noon.

Tufts 2, Colby 1

SOMERVILLE – Junior Jen Fratto chipped in the eventual game-winner as Tufts edged Colby 2-1 to earn a spot in the NESCAC women’s soccer championship Saturday afternoon.

The Jumbos (12-2-1) struck first when junior Kim Harrington blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the far post in the 19th minute.

With time winding into the final five minutes of regulation, junior Laura Williamson intercepted a clearing attempt by the Jumbos and ripped in a goal to put the Mules (7-3-5) within striking distance at 2-1. However, Colby was unable to position itself in order to get a good shot at tying the contest.

St. Joe’s 2, Russell Sage 0

STANDISH – First-year Heather Stanger scored the only goal St. Joseph’s needed as the Monks downed Russell Sage 2-0 in women’s soccer action Saturday.

The Monks (11-6) grabbed an early lead as senior tri-captain Kerri Driscoll delivered a perfect pass to Stanger for a shot into the upper right corner of the goal just eight seconds into the contest.

Russell Sage (7-4-6) was robbed of a game-tying goal in the 23rd minute by sophomore midfielder Allison Walton on a tremendous defensive play.

Field hockey

Bowdoin 2, Wesleyan 0

BRUNSWICK – Hilary Hoffman scored a pair of goals as Bowdoin advanced to the NESCAC championship game with a 2-0 victory over Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Several strong saves by goalie Caitlin Kelly kept the Cardinals (11-5) in the game early.

The Polar Bears (15-0) were unable to convert on three successive penalty corners in the first 10 minutes. However, as intermission approached, Allyson Craib was able to take control of a loose ball on the wing and center it to Hoffman. Hoffman slapped the ball past Kelly and into the back of the net with just 1:39 left before intermission.

Boston 3, Maine 1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Sarah Shute paced Boston University to its fifth America East field hockey championship Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the University of Maine.

After a scoreless first half, offensive action picked up in the second frame when Ashley Parker scored the first Terrier (15-5) goal at the 59:23 mark. Shute then netted her first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, just two minutes later.

The Black Bears (13-7) fought their way back to a one-goal deficit as Nicole Emery sent a Joanna Fernandes pass to the back of the cage at 65:08. Maine’s hopes were dashed just 14 seconds later as Shute scored her second goal of the contest.

W. New England 2, UMF 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Allison Jameson scored the game-winner with eight seconds remaining as No. 8 Western New England College defeated No. 3 defending champion University of Maine at Farmington in the championship game of the NAC Tournament on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears (19-4) went ahead on a goal by Cori Eggert at the 8:02 mark.

The Beavers (11-6) tied the contest with 2:10 left in the game when senior Kristi Cochin tallied a goal on a penalty corner with assists from Mary Berry and Kristen Allen.
