In accordance with orders received yesterday, Sheriff Hastings will at once transfer all prisoners from counties outside of Androscoggin now serving sentences in Auburn jail to the Kennebec jail at Augusta. There are about 20 of such prisoners and their removal will greatly relieve the congested condition of affairs at the Auburn jail.

Al’s Service Station at 794 Sabattus St., Lewiston, has been sold along with an oil business and equipment by Alcide E. and Grace Anctil of Lewiston to Ovide and Rose A. Pare, also of Lewiston. The Pare couple are formerly of Quebec.
Anctil has operated the oil and service station for a dozen years and will continue as manager of the business. The Pares will occupy an apartment over the service station and the Anctil family is planning to purchase a new home.

Every year since 1936, the city of Auburn has banned on-street parking from Nov. 15 to April 15 and every year as sure as the city’s police officers start issuing warnings and then tickets, the ban comes up for public criticism.
This year has been no different.
With parking at a premium — especially downtown — the City Council has been asked to look again at what could be done to ease the situation and will meet later this month to do just that.
First adopted in August 1936, the ban was reaffirmed in 1971 and again in 1980.
