ORONO (AP) – Maine’s high school dropouts are the focus of discussion in a meeting of educators, business leaders, children’s advocates and others in Orono.
The state Department of Education organized the two-day dropout prevention summit in conjunction with America’s Promise Alliance. More than 250 people are expected at the event, which started Monday at the University of Maine.
The goal of the summit is to develop a dropout prevention plan to increase the state’s graduation rate to 90 percent by 2016. The rate now stands at 77 percent.
The summit will feature a student video and panel, workshops, panel discussions and more.
