BOSTON (AP) – Red Sox left-hander David Wells, on the disabled list for two weeks with a sprained right foot, will throw in the bullpen today so doctors can check his progress.

“Baby steps is all we can do right now,” he said before Tuesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics. “My time’s coming to an end. I want to go out there as much as I can, go out on a good note.”

The 41-year-old Wells went on the disabled list April 26 and was expected to miss a month. He is eligible to be activated today.

Boston manager Terry Francona said Wells will join his teammates on the road trip beginning Friday in Seattle, but Wells said it depends on how his bullpen session goes.

Wells started Boston’s season opener at Yankee Stadium because Curt Schilling wasn’t ready after offseason ankle surgery.

Schilling is also on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his right ankle and is scheduled to meet with doctors before today’s game against Oakland.

“He’s just as miserable as I am,” Wells said.
