HEBRON – Friends of Little Field Home will host a Walk for Water at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 17, at Hebron Academy’s athletic fields on Route 119.

The 5-mile walk event will include an African art sale, a barbecue and face painting. Proceeds will go toward creating a borehole (well) on site at the medical clinic at the orphanage of Little Field Home in Chigamba Village, Malawi. Walkers and runners are welcome anytime from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The project also includes having solar-powered storage tanks and an irrigation system installed so the community can grow crops year round instead of relying on their short rainy season each year.

“Chigamba Village is in a very poor area in Malawi and to have the community working together for a sustainable farm is exciting,” said Janet Littlefield, executive director of the nonprofit Friends of Little Field Home.

The home supports 72 children, 27 secondary school youths and 80 families with a family member suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Those interested in joining the walk or for more information should go to www.littlefieldhome.org.
