LOVELL – The Greater Lovell Land Trust will host a meeting to inform area farmers and farmland owners of a program linking farmers to productive farmlands from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 29, at the United Church of Christ .

The Maine Farmland Trust, a statewide agricultural land trust, will present its Maine FarmLink program.

The trust states in its literature that there are more than 7,000 working farms in the state, and suggests the numbers are growing.

Access to productive farmland at an affordable rate is a major hurdle faced by the next generation of farmers. The Maine FarmLink program is a farm transfer program that connects prospective farmers seeking farmland with retiring farmers and other farmland owners who wish to see their agricultural lands remain active.

To date, the program has placed 31 farmers onto 31 Maine farms for 3,000 acres. The program has 125 qualified prospective farmers seeking productive farmland.

The Greater Lovell Land Trust and the Maine Farmland Trust invite farmers to join others with similar goals and learn how the FarmLink program may be helpful.

Representatives from the Greater Lovell Land Trust and the Maine Farmland Trust will be present to describe their programs, provide guidance and referrals, and answer questions.

Coffee and light breakfast fare will be available upon arrival.
