WOODSTOCK – The Oxford County Democrats welcomed a record crowd of more than 100 to the shores of Lake Christopher and the Maine Conservation School on Aug. 26 for a Family Fun Day and barbecue.

The guests of honor were Congressmen Tom Allen and Mike Michaud, Attorney General Steve Rowe, Speaker of the House Glenn Cummings and Assistant Majority Leader Sean Faircloth.

Local officials in attendance included Sen. Bruce Bryant, Reps. Tim Carter, Terry Hayes and John Patrick, as well as Sheriff Wayne Gallant, National Committeeman Sam Spencer and Maine Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Marianne Stevens.

Bryant served as master of ceremonies and introduced the nominee for House District 93: Sheryl Briggs of Mexico, who spoke about her plans for the upcoming campaign and her commitment to working to earn the votes of residents of Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Mexico and Peru on Nov. 6.

The group had a meal prepared by the Conservation School staff.

Plans are in the works for the Oxford and Fryeburg fairs. Anyone who would like to take a shift in the booth at either fair should contact Cathy Newell at 875-2116.
