BETHEL – William B. Krohn, Ph.D., USGS Biological Resources, Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, University of Maine at Orono, will be the featured speaker at the 42nd annual meeting of the Bethel Historical Society.
The session will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Dr. Moses Mason House, 14 Broad St., beginning with a 6 p.m. potluck supper followed by a brief business meeting.
Krohn’s presentation, “Joshua Gross Rich (1820-1897): Western Maine Pioneer and Wildlife Writer,” will follow the annual meeting.
Rich, who lived in a number of Western Maine communities including Bethel, was a prolific and frequent writer for local newspapers and hunting/fishing magazines and journals.
At the annual meeting, there will be committee reports, president’s report and presentation of honorary membership certificates and the 2007 Marjorie MacArthur Noll Volunteer Service Award. There will also be votes on bylaw amendments and changes in the dues structure.
Those wishing to attend the potluck supper are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share with others. Any member desiring copies of the proposed changes in the bylaws before the meeting is asked to visit the society office at 10 Broad St. during regular business hours.
