DIXFIELD – Scott Skibitsky of Dixfield has graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. At the time of graduation, he also accepted his commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
Skibitsky, the son of Eugene and Leslie Skibitsky of Dixfield, is a 2002 graduate of Dirigo High School. After his graduation from Dirigo, he received a Falcon Foundation scholarship to attend a year of Academy Prep at the New Mexico Military Institute, after which he received his appointment to the Air Force Academy.
During his time at the Academy, Skibitsky served as cadet major for Standards and Evaluations, and also as training officer for Cadet Squadron 36. In the summer of 2006, he was selected to be deployed to Southwest Asia with the 386th AEF as part of Operation Air Force, a training program for cadets, spending a month at Ali Al Salem AFB in Kuwait. For several semesters at the Academy he was named to the Commandant’s List for military excellence and dean’s list for academics.
After a 60-day leave period, 2nd Lt. Skibitsky will report to Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas, to begin pilot training.
