LEWISTON – In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Sexual Assault Crisis Center and the Androscoggin Children’s Advocacy Center are hosting an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at their new office space at 182 Webster St.

The Sexual Assault Crisis Center is the Androscoggin County agency that provides assistance to anyone affected by sexual assault, sexual abuse or sexual harassment.

Services are available free to victim/survivors, family members and friends and professionals working with victim/survivors. Last year SACC received reports of 252 incidents of sexual victimization, and provided more than 1,250 hours of assistance and support. SACC also provided educational/prevention programs to more than 2,700 school and community members.

The Androscoggin Children’s Advocacy Center is designed to facilitate a multi-disciplinary response to childhood sexual abuse. The center offers a child-friendly space where child victims of sexual abuse can be interviewed by a specially trained interviewer.

Other professionals who need information about the abuse can observe the interview via closed circuit television. The center also facilitates a case review process to make sure that the needs of the child and family are being met.
