NORWAY – “Ways of Seeing,” an exhibit of photographs created by 16 students in Ed Stevens’ Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School photography class, will have its opening night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Norway Memorial Library.
The exhibit will go up on Friday, April 6, and run through the end of the month. The 26 photographs represent a variety of subjects, including self-portraits and design themes.
A key objective of Stevens’ photography class is to have students learn how to “make the picture,” rather than “take the picture.” They accomplish it by using 35mm SLR cameras and learning to properly expose, develop and print black and white film using traditional photographic techniques.
Photographs in the exhibit are the result of the students’ responses to lesson assignments covering composition, texture, pattern and portraits. Each student elaborates and modifies the themes and Stevens evaluates how effectively each student has communicated the elements. In addition, Stevens grades the students on print quality, which involves focus and exposure.
The public is invited to the opening exhibit or to see the photos throughout the month when the library is open. For more information, call the library at 743-5309.
